A note to the owner who asked what it was:

What you've got is a motor I've not seen before. I doesn't fit any of the named Caille models but it sure does look factory made and I think it was.

Caille has a history of making "parts bin" motors.

The serial number prefix "D" indicates a Model 10 which was a 5 speed. The decal on the tank is similar to the Scout but isn't a wrap around. The original Scout decal was one piece starting on the front and continuing all the way around to the front on the other side. Yours looks like it has a vertical border on it on the back edge which is unlike any other I've seen.
Other differences from the model 10: later transom screws, soft cap on flywheel.

So....
Single speed Model 10 (parts bin special) made circa 1929
You've got an important motor in exceptional condition. If it was mine I wouldn't even dust it.
Please keep it as a reference for what Caille actually sent out the door.
I'd like good photos of the decals on both sides of the front of the tank please. (None sent unfortunately!)
All the best,
Jack Craib
