Caille Model 16A Index

The model 16A was advertised as the “sport” model.

There were 3 things that made it unique from the standard model 16 -

  • first is the 3 piece stamped steel fuel tank.
  • second it incorporated a steel exhaust can with underwater tube vs. the cast aluminum version used on the standard model 16.
  • Lastly was the use of the lower unit from a model 79/88 along with the cast underwater exhaust from the same model.

To the best of my knowledge the motor internals were the same, so not exactly sure why the 2hp power increase. Although I seem to remember the way of measuring horsepower was changed in the mid 1930’s, maybe that is why???

This same motor was sold in 1934 as the model 129.
