1921 A word about the Knorring company - they were importers of machinery like locomotives and construction equipment, and equipment for manufacturing plants. From 1893-1896 Axel von Knorring was editor-in-chief of Teknikern, the prestigious publication of the Finnish Engineering Society. Their goal for the journal was to reach the general public and attract more interest in modern and future developments in the field. The designer of Aveko, Gillis Emanuel Huss, was a skilled engineer and metalurgist with high standards for his work. The actual manufacturer of the Aveko was done by Ahjon Konepaja. An article at that time said that "Ahjon Konepaja, in Helsinki, has now started under the leadership of a professional manager and using to the most up-to-date precision methods to manufacture the new Aveko engine.". Ahjo Konepaja Ltd. was a machine shop in Siltasaari, Helsinki in the 1920s and 1930s. The Aveko was a fine rowboat motor produced at a time when lighter and more advanced outboards were about to make it outdated and economically impractical to compete with imports. |
