This motor has seen a fairly extensive "shade-tree re-engineering" to add on a chain-driven magneto that was never part of the original design. It is very likely that the work was inspired by an owner who, perhaps being envious of later Evinrude models that used the flywheel magneto system for ignition, saw the value and convenience of a self-contained ignition that didn't require the use of external wiring, batteries, or a coil. |
