Nymph

Nymph Motor Compamy, Cleveland, Ohio

Cookie tins stacked on top of one another.

Peter Hunn just says they built a motor from 1914 to 1916 in Cleveland, (the hometown of Ferro). Check Arlan Carter's book for his take on the company.

I see striking Ferro similarities in the exhaust and the quadrant shaped transom clamp, and the rudder. No one I know has ever seen one. I don't think they were made.

Recently we had time to try to find more info on the company. Starting with the 1915 mention in The Rudder of "Nymph Motor Company (Mr. CF Fried), Cleveland, Ohio" a search didn't go far until in Arlan Carter's book it said "Ernest Fried". Ernest R. Fried was hired by the Ferro Machinery and Foundry Company in 1914 as an mechanical engineer.

"Another prominent engineer who has joined the Ferro staff is Ernest R. Fried, who will take charge of the motor engineering department and design a complete line of four cycle marine motors for the Ferro people.

From 1910 to 1913 Mr. Fried was connected with the General Motors Co., of Detroit, as engineer and motor expert, and for the last year he has been an independent consulting engineer in Detroit, making a specialty of motors."

Mr. Fried's name does not appear in this notice of the company incorporation though.
